Is Dreams From Gin splitting up, or is this a side project?

Good question! Dreams from Gin is currently on a Hiatus, which means we are not playing shows or recording music anytime in the near future.

Right now playing in the Spin Wires is my main priority. We are actually getting some good traction with Radio airplay and are chatting with some indie record labels so I'm hopeful something will pan out.

We've been playing a lot of shows but I'd really like to release this EP and see how it does!

Let me know how the band project with your buddy goes, I'll check it out when you guys get something together!

Thanks!

Hey dude, thanks! The project with my friend is most likely going to be a skate punk type thing, in the vein of The Offspring(Americana-era) and Pennywise, maybe some Bad Religion and poppy Green Day influence as well. We also plan on at times breaking away from that entirely and doing something completely out-of-the-blue like a jazz/hip hop beat or something as an interlude. More than likely we'll be heavily satirical lyrically, discussing social and political issues from a sarcastic, humorous viewpoint.

It's also going to have a very lo-fi sound, as we don't have a recording budget at all and nowhere to record except for our apartment. I'm hoping we'll have some time to throw together a demo soon, I'm pretty excited about it.

Cool, Offspring and Bad Religion are right up my alley! Shoot me a message when you have the demos ready or if you want any advice on getting the best out of a lo-fi recording! DfG's first three songs, Stoic/OnOff/Midnight in Canandaigua were all super Lo Fi done by ourselves, using three fairly low end mics. I did a lot of research at the time on the best way to record things.

Will do! I could use some advice on a good mic for vocals, as I have literally no experience with mics at all. As well as the types of cables and that kinda thing to buy. Appreciate the help dude!

I'd say your best bet for a Good Quality but still affordable Vocal Mic is a Shure58. It's pretty much the industry standard in live performance and many artists use it for recording vocals + it's tough as a rock. Also, it doubles as an instrument mic and you can mic basically any musical instrument with it. You can usually pick up a used one for 50$ (new is 99$). As far as cables go it depends on what your using to record. The cheapest route would be XLR to USB, which would be fine.

IMO pick up equipment used, so long as it works. The price of musical equipment drops dramatically if it's used.

I bought that mic a while ago, but never had time to use it, and therefore never got around to buying the cables for it either. I really appreciate your help man, thanks a lot!

Looks like that MIC already has a USB pre-amp built in so you would only need a USB cable to hook it up to the computer. (unfortunately it doesn't show any pics of the bottom but from the description it sounds like that). USB cables are pretty cheap or you might be able to take one from another device because generally they are universal.

Ok, thanks a lot man! I definitely appreciate the help! :)
